PGPD Arrests Suspect in Connection to 2024 Fatal Shooting

With the assistance of a tip provided to Prince George’s County Crime Solvers, the Homicide Unit identified and charged a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting last November. The suspect is 24-year-old Elijah Kamara of no fixed address. He is charged with the murder of 43-year-old Morris Haskins Jr. of Washington, DC.

On November 8, 2024, at approximately 5:50 pm, Maryland-National Capital Park Police and PGPD officers responded to a park in the 7700 block of Walker Mill Road for a reported shooting. Officers located Haskins Jr. outside suffering from a gunshot wound. He died of his injuries the following day.

Through the course of their investigation, detectives identified Kamara as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest on February 3, 2025.

On April 14, 2025, an officer assigned to Westphalia Division VIII conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Walters Lane and Chavez Lane. Once the vehicle stopped, Kamara, a passenger, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers without incident.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect shot the victim during an argument. The suspect and victim were known to each other.

Kamara is charged with first-degree murder and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections
