Strategy to Help Prevent Teen Takeovers

What Are Teen Takeovers: Refers to a large, often unregulated gathering of teenagers—sometimes hundreds—organized through social media to meet at a specific public location at a set time. While the initial intent can be social or recreational, these events have increasingly spun out of control into criminal activity.
Prince George’s County Crime Solvers is working with law enforcement, community partners, and youth organizations to reduce the risks associated with teen takeovers by focusing on: Early Detection Through Anonymous Tips; Youth-Focused Prevention — Promoting Safe, Structured Summer Activities; Rapid Community Alerts; and Partnering with Parents and Schools.
Fall and Autumn mean the same thing — just two different names for one beautiful season. And, no matter what time of year, Prince George’s County Crime Solvers provides a safe, anonymous way to share tips that solve cases, protect our neighborhoods, and keep our communities safe. So no matter what you call the season, you can always make a difference — if you see something, say something.

With schools fully underway, there is a lot happening—from increased traffic around schools and crowded bus stops to more activity online. If something does not feel safe, speak up right away. Tell a teacher, school counselor, coach, bus driver, parent or guardian, or another trusted adult who can provide immediate help and support. Your safety matters, and speaking up can make a BIG difference.
In an emergency or any situation requiring an immediate police response, always dial 9-1-1. Crime Solvers is not a substitute for 9-1-1 and is solely for anonymously reporting information that may help prevent or solve a crime.
Example of information you can report anonymously to crime solvers:
- THREATS OF VIOLENCE
Any threat to shoot, stab, bomb, or attack a school — even as a “joke.” This is #1 because it signals potential mass-casualty, premeditated violence. It gets the fastest response.
- WEAPONS AT SCHOOL
Someone has, shows, or brags about a gun, knife, or other weapon on campus or at a bus stop. Tied with #1 in practice — an active weapon present is an immediate lethal risk.
- EXPLOITATION/BULLYING OR BEING TARGETED
When an adult is trying to use or manipulate a student. This includes requesting, pressuring, or threatening a student for private or inappropriate images — including sextortion — or offering drugs, alcohol, or vapes to a minor.
- ILLEGAL GUNS, DRUGS, ALCOHOL, OR VAPES
Being sold, shared, hidden, or offered in school, on school property, or at bus stops.
- PLANNED DISRUPTIONS
Planned large fights, teen takeovers, or illegal car rallies being organized in or on school property or online.
- KNOWLEDGE OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
You have information regarding theft, vandalism, assault, or the whereabouts of a wanted individual.
Remember – If you see something, say something — even if you are not sure. Every tip is taken seriously, and you can remain completely anonymous. You do not have to give your name or get involved. Your information could prevent harm, protect a student, and make our schools and community safer. Details on how students can report safety concerns anonymously can be viewed here.
